We live in one of the most precious places on earth. For me, there is a strong sense of responsibility that goes with living here, and a strong desire to be involved with the decisions that affect our community. I am running for Banff-Cochrane MLA because I believe in creating a future prosperity that is built on the collective strength and wisdom of Albertans through dialogue, consultation and respect.
As MLA of the Banff-Cochrane constituency, I will be committed to finding solutions, getting in front of issues, being innovative to achieve results, accountability, welcoming change, and never giving up as there is always a way to do the right thing. It will be my priority to regularlycommunicate and work with locals and to champion:
· Accessible and publically funded Health Care
· Quality Seniors Housing
· Predictable and adequate Education Funding
· Respecting the environment while providing opportunities for growth
· Addressing infrastructure needs to ensure Economic Growth
· Protection of Local Decision Making and Property Rights
· Support for Alberta Tourism
In October 1995 I was elected to Canmore’s Town Council. I learned early on about the power of community and the importance of planning for our future. I was Mayor of Canmore from 1998 – 2001 and after a three year break I was re-elected Mayor in 2004, 2007 and 2010. Working with the right stakeholders to resolve issues has become increasingly important to me. The success of the Bow Valley Regional Transportation Commission is one example of how bringing the right stakeholders together and working cooperatively, great things can be achieved. My work on regional initiatives, committees, and advisory boards has given me a clear understanding of the needs of the Banff Cochrane Constituency and the importance of regional co-operation.
During my time as Mayor I have also developed significant experience at the Provincial level by serving on the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA) Board of Directors, the AUMA Assessment Task Force and several committees including Environment, Affordable Housing, Infrastructure & Energy, and Governance. I have also received Provincial experience by serving on the Board of Governors for Alberta Municipal Services Corporation, the Utility Consumer Advocate Advisory Board, and SRD’s Mountain Pine Beetle Committee.
After 14 years in Municipal government, I have gained the experience and developed the track record necessary to work effectively for the Banff-Cochrane consistency. I hope to bring my proven experience, knowledge, and commitment to the Provincial stage. Join me as we work together to lead Banff-Cochrane into a prosperous future.
